Have you ever taken a moment to realize that we have been failing our way through life, and all of that failure are actually a positive thing. Think about it, we weren't born with the full vocabulary we have today, learning to speak was a long journey. We started crying, with time, cries turned into grunts, grunts turned into words, and eventually those words turned into full sentences. As much of a long and grueling process this was, no one told us to stop speaking because it didn't sound perfect. Actually, the more you struggled the more you were encouraged to speak, to continue practicing. Similarly, learning to walk didn’t happen overnight. We fell down, scraped our knees and maybe even bumped our heads. Continuing with this pattern, reflect on the first few years of learning to write, our papers were most likely nearly illegible for quite some time. We wrote anyway. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.
This is a great opportunity for journaling. Go through your life and notice where you have had to fail your way to success. Beginning with the very basics, connect with your personal process and connect to your eventual success. Take note of how long the process took, what parts were difficult, and what parts were easy for each experience.
Flash forward to our present day self and we can recognize that learning never stops, and failure doesn’t disappear. What we lose is fearlessness and our childlike innocence. This is understandable, as we are no longer children with no concept of bills, and the stress of daily life. We may not have a close support system where someone is always there to catch us when we fall down, or give us words of encouragement that keep us going. We have to become our own support system, and that is a learning process we have to fail through as well. Add the pressure we put on ourselves to be immediately successful and it's no wonder we find ourselves discouraged and giving up.
I challenge you to look at life from a childlike perspective, to realize that anything you want to do is possible with time, patience and an unrelenting willingness to keep trying. Ask yourself if you are being patient enough with your process. If you recognize your patience can use some practice, focus on learning how you can give yourself support and feel a sense of safety and security that comes from within. Most importantly build trust within yourself and believe wholeheartedly in your individual process. The world needs the magic that lives in your heart, do not let fear hold you back from living your most soulful, fulfilled life.
